New Zealand Steel provides unique work opportunities in a challenging and stimulating environment.
If you have experience and/or skills in the following disciplines, we would love to talk to you:
If you are a student of engineering and technology, talk to us about our tertiary scholarships program.
Our company has won numerous awards and commendations for our contributions to technology, the environment, the economy and our community.
Our engineers and technologists are recognised internationally for their expertise in the unique process that converts sand to steel.
And being part of the bigger BlueScope Steel group, our people have the opportunity to forge relationships with peers in related organisations in Australia and across Asia.
Almost 25% of our employees have trades-related qualifications, and each year a number of trade trainees spend time on site as part of their training.
Over the years, many trade trainees have been medallists in the New Zealand Youth Skills Olympics, and several have represented New Zealand at the world finals.
Our integrated steel mill is situated in rural Glenbrook, 60 kilometres south of New Zealand’s largest city of Auckland (population 1.1 million).
With 1,200 employees, we are the country’s largest single site employer and contribute more than $80 million per year to the South Auckland economy.
Most of our employees live in the local Franklin towns of Waiuku and Pukekohe, with a smaller number residing in the South Auckland suburbs of Papakura and Manurewa. The company provides subsidised transport services to these areas for all shift start and finish times. More than half our employees work rotating shifts, the majority on a 12-hour pattern.
In addition to competitive salaries and wages, our employees have access to a subsidised superannuation plan, medical insurance and employee incentive plans.
Leave entitlements are generous for employees’ own or family sickness or bereavement, and we grant long service leave, plus some paid parental leave.
Employee share plans are sometimes offered at the discretion of the Board of Directors.
The Glenbrook site has a fully staffed 24-hour medical centre, a subsidised cafeteria, and a credit union.
