Operations
There are two operational facets to New Zealand Steel - steelmaking and mining. Our mines supply ironsand to our steel mill at Glenbrook, as well as to customers in North Asia.
Situated at Glenbrook, south of Auckland, New Zealand Steel's fully integrated steel mill produces a range of flat steel products for both domestic and export markets.
Up to 1.2 million tonnes of sand is mined each year at the Waikato North Head mine. The deposit contains more than 150 million tonnes of ironsand.
The Taharoa mine site covers an area of 1,300 hectares. The site is leased from the local Maori landowners. Since 1972, New Zealand Steel Mining has provided continuous supply to its North Asian customer base.
