NZ Workplace Health & Safety Award For New Zealand Steel

30/06/09

New Zealand Steel has taken first place in the best design or technology initiative category at the NZ Workplace Health and Safety Awards for 2009. The category recognises a NZ originated design or technology which best demonstrates an effective solution to a specific Health & Safety issue.

The award was recognition for the load restraint 3D 'e-learning' training package designed by 3D specialists Revisia Ltd. The project team worked hard to provide clear, concise training for all transport companies coming to our site, giving them the flexibility to train drivers in circumstances that suit them and with very little cost outlay. Unlike a paper based system, the strong visual element gives exact and succinct information that is easily absorbed by those completing the training. This technology is also easily updated.

Gary Bright (Distribution Controller) accepted the award on behalf of the Company. "This project has taken two years of development from a dedicated team of engineers both here and in Australia. The award recognises the enormous amount of skill, innovation and focus it has taken by every one involved to produce a tool that will ultimately provide safer transport of steel products," she said.

The awards, in their fifth year, are organised by Safeguard magazine and supported by the Department of Labour.
