We are very proud to acknowledge the success of Dion Hubers and Scott Eyre who competed gallantly in the competitions in Helsinki, Finland recently.
Both Dion and Scott have been trained at New Zealand Steel using the apprentice training groups, Apprentice Training NZ (ATNZ) and Electrical Training Company (ETCO). They have reached high levels of achievement in their fields during that training. This base has enabled them to move into the SkillEx competitions through to Helsinki where they have gained these excellent results.

Dion came ninth in his trade, welding, with 518 points and Scott was 16th in mechatronics with 494 points.
NZ Steel has been a major sponsor of YouthSkills since it inception over 15 yrs ago.
Our employees also dug deep to support their workmates by purchasing tickets in a fundraising raffle organised by the NZ Steel Social Club.
Adding to the pressure would have been the public interest in the event, the competition attracted over 40,000 visitors on both days of the competitions.
